La Casa Rosada

As many know, we are raising money and collecting clothes and supplies for La Casa Rosada, an AIDS orphanage. So far, through donations from Monaga clients (& Dominican Island Heat) and Santo Domingo visitors, we have raised over $5,000 in cash and other donations.

If you are traveling to Santo Domingo and you have some used clothes for children that are in good condition, or you have some school supplies, books (preferably in Spanish), or would like to make a donation, you can contact us and we will pick it up from you. Or, if you like, we can take you to the orphange personally so that you can make the donation yourself.

Now, you don't have to go through Monaga at all. Go to the web page we have set up and you can get there information and deal directly with the orphanage. If you want to see who some true heroes are, go to the orphange and see how they are changing lives. Most of the people working there are volunteers and just visiting softens the heart of the hardest person.

They can accept checks drawn on U.S. banks. So, on your next visit to Santo Domingo, and especially for those who come often and love the island, why not bring something down for La Casa Rosada? Or, maybe you know of another worthy charity to contribute to. Let us know and we will spotlight them here.

We know that you come to the island for fun and relaxation, but maybe you can help out in some small way. No donation is too little.

Lastly, a couple of weeks ago, someone left a big box of children's clothes at the guesthouse. Really nice clothes almost new, Baby Gap, and other names. Didn't get your name or contact information, but just wanted to say THANK YOU!

Okay, the sad music has stopped playing and we now go to a commercial ...

Today (08.16.05) is the first time at this blog site. Thanks for creating the blog, and more than that, I thank you for citing how much money has been donted to La Casa Rosada.

I'd like to donate an IBM Selectric typewriter after seeing typewriters being used at various places when I visited the DR/Santo Domingo with the DIH group in February.

Should I try to persue this, or would I encounter a lot of unnecessary red tape as well as an exorbitant expense for this donation?

I will have to confirm with the orphanage about donating an electric typewriter. I will get back to you.

I know that this post was forever ago but I will be in DR shortly with family and would love to throw stuff in my suitcase that can help. Is there anyway to know what they are in need of right now? Also we are going to Punta Cana and i know it is a bit away what would be the best way for us to travel there?

They always need children's clothing, children's books (in Spanish), toys, food and money. And if you're going to Punta Cana from Santo Domingo, there is a bus that leaves several times a day.
