LeeStudiosNYC @ The Whiskey Lounge

Last night Lee Studios NYC held a party at the Whiskey Lounge. The Whiskey Lounge could be a nice spot, but unfortunately they don't quite know what to do with it. Last night showed the great possibilities of the space. Lee Studios blended the perfect melange of people, space & ambiance, though the 9 dancers didn't hurt. It was the perfect blend of locals and tourists. There were even a few Dominican socialites milling about.

I think this should be a regular party.

Don't you?

Latest (part 2)

Just came back from the doctor's office, and I am extremely pleased. I have not had a complete checkup in a couple of years. Turning 44 made me think I needed to get a prostate exam. I got a recommendation from someone about a doctor at the Clinica Abreu. The doctor was absolutely great and he spoke English, which made me much more comfortable to ask questions. I got more tests than I ever remember getting in the States. The unfortunate thing about going to the doctor here is that most offices don't have the equipment to take x-rays, blood, etc. You have to go to different places to get whatever tests are required. Again, if you fall ill while visiting Santo Domingo, you want to go to the Clinica Abreu.

As I talk with and chat with friends all I get is how cold it is in the norther part of the States. Well, it is just lovely and beautiful here.

I have also been cleaning up and going through all these CD's I have lying about. A couple of years ago I had a computer hard-drive crash. I thought many photos and things were gone for good. But I was able to find some CD's with some pictures I thought wer lost, like some really old photos from one of my model favorites, Roberto.

And don't forget, for those visiting this weekend, LeeStudiosNYC is having a function at the Whiskey Lounge.

Are you going to be in Santo Domingo for M.L.K. weekend (United States holiday)? Well, if you are, I suggest you be in attendance at LeestudiosNYC's party at the Whiskey Lounge. If you can't make it, not too worry, I will have the photos.

Whiskey Lounge

Whiskey Lounge, the new spot in the Colonial Zone for a drink in beautiful surroundings. Located on Calle Las Mercedes, close to Santome. Stop in and have a drink. Be sure to tell them Anthony sent you. Thanks to Laurence P., for the photos.

If you are in NYC this Sunday, don't forget to checkout the Dominican Day Parade, and send me some pictures!

Y Que?

Great weekend. Yesterday was Father's Day here, so happy Father's Day to all the Dominican Daddies. The Merengue Festival was also this past weekend. Wanted to go, but there were tooo many people and the traffic was horrendous. Watched some of it on TV instead. Very nice. Did anyone go to the Dominican Parade in the Bronx yesterday? Did you take any photos? Most of the photos I could find were of beautiful buxom women, but no hot men. What's up with that? The parade in Manhattan will be on Sunday, August 10, 2008.

Everyone is complaining (or maybe it is just me) about the electricity situation rearing its ugly head again. Many parts of the country are experiencing blackouts for upwards of 18 hours PER DAY. President Fernandez, when are you going to straighten out this situation? Until this country gets this fucking problem together it will never be able to modernize. And forget about running a business with interruptions.

Diario Libre, the local free paper, will now have news in English. This is a test run to see how things go. Hope they are able to continue the experiment.

There is another new bar that opened a couple of months ago, called the Whiskey Lounge. The bar is located on Las Mercedes near Sanchez. There were a lot of rumblings that this bar was owned by Orlando, the former owner of Parios. This is not true, it is owned by a Dominican woman. Robinson, who used to be the bartender at Bar Friends, is now working there. Robinson contacted me to meet the owner who is interested in reaching out to the gay community. I have told people to go by and check the place out. It is very nice, but it is not a hustler bar. I will keep you posted.

Here are my latest tips:

Don't get a manicure/pedicure on the beach. It is highly unsanitary and can lead to some serious complications. Here's a hint. Just look at the towel the manicurist is carrying. It is usually quite dirty. There are cases of people getting infected in the best salons in the world. So you can imagine a woman peddling manicures/pedicures on the beach with a dirty towel. I mean really, people.

Don't get into a cab, any cab, without knowing the cost of the ride BEFOREHAND. Cabs in the Dominican Republic don't have meters, so please make sure you understand the cost before you get in. This will save you a lot of headaches.

Please don't give your rental car to a drug addict to go run errands for you. I know this should go without saying, but there are just some people who completely get caught up in the moment.

Okay, here is my last one, and I know it will stir controversy. But, don't play cards at Paco's. It's tacky. Just my observation.
