As regular readers to the blog know, Ernest Montgomery is one of my favorite people. He is also a great photographer. Every once in a while (very often, it seems) he finds a subject that is so beautiful that it should be echoed from the mountain tops. David Pacheco, is just that kind of subject. He is not Dominican, but Venezuelan, but I'm sure you agree that he is worthy of being displayed on the blog. Ernest is trying to talk him to coming down for a visit. He has got a calendar coming out. Checkout his website for more information.
Let's see, what else is going on:
Parios has closed. The bar located down the street from Jay-Dee's has closed its doors once and for all. Orlando, Parios' owner is a good guy. I wish him the best in whatever he chooses to do next.
Today I spoke with Dominican television personality, Chachita Rubio. Word on the grapevine was that she was opening a new club. She had told me several months ago that she had been approached, but wasn't sure if she was going to do it. Well, today she confirmed that she is opening a new club. She says everything is being worked out now and she hopes to have her grand-opening at the end of this month. She promises to keep me informed and bring me some flyers once things are finalized. The name of the new club will be Rouge (Red in French) and will be located in the Gazcue section of Santo Domingo. More information as it becomes available. The club wars are really heating up! Nothing like healthy competition to get things going.
For those that are in town this weekend, you should checkout the Track & Field Championships being held here at the Panamerican Stadium. Please (!), I beg you, wear your sunglasses. You cannot help but stare.
Here is a great new blog about a gay Dominican's sexcapades in the good 'ole Republica Dominicana. It is in Spanish, but you can go to a translation site (http://babelfish.altavista.com) to get the feeling. The pictures don't hurt either.
Lastly. My good friend Greg was here this past weekend. It was great seeing him, but in my job as a raconteur, I was telling him the stories that have been going on. Just the usual nonsense about people falling in love with prostitutes and then wanting to blame me when it falls apart. Not to my face, of course. It was great seeing you as always and seeing as today is your birthday, Happy Birthday, Greg. Thanks for being my friend!!!!!

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Orlando Im sorry that his club closed down. He is a very good and nice person. Anthony thanks again for keeping us informed. Any word on the new hotel.
this is my favorite part of the blog, the PHOTOS!!!!!
not that the 4th of july photos were not nice. but these are the photos that i like.
thanks ant.
MORE PHOTOS. please!
The New York/DC clan is very disappointed to learn about the closing of Parois. It was a welcomed change from the hustle and bustle of Jay Dee's. Orlando is certainly a wonderful person and we do join everyone in wishing him well.
I am sorry to hear that Orlando has closed his bar. Paulo and I really liked him and enjoyed visiting him and his wife when we were in Santo Domingo on our vacations. Best of luck to Orlando and the gay community will miss you and your wife. We thank you for being so accepting and supporting the gay community.
I, too, am sorry to hear that Orlando closed Parios. We always stopped by for some drinks, but we knew that it would go under sooner or later. For some reason, that place never found its groove. I always wondered why, with two places so near each other, one was always packed and the other so empty! My best to Orlando,
From Puerto Rico,
Rafael
On the opening of the new club ROUGE, "healthy competition" is good as Anthony writes. However, Gazcue is a mostly residencial community, so Ms. Rubio might find herself competing not with other clubs, but with the neighbors in trying to keep the place open. Good luck to her too!
From Puerto Rico,
Rafael
I am so sorry to hear that Orlando closed his place but must say it was not unexpected, because every time we were in there , few people were there, given that fact, he just could not make a go of it, sad to say , from the sounds of things. Hope he can find much success in what ever he should do next and god bless him in what ever he should attempt.
JIM From Houston
I wish Orlando the best in his future efforts. He is a good man with good intentions. He never allowed himself to be caught up in the madness of the sissy shit as directed by the headrag/manbag wearing queen. Orlando always respected the other gay businesses, even his compitition. Now with this pulic announcement of this new club opening in Gazcue by Chachita, lets hope Miss Leon does not try to destroy Chachita's dreams before they get off the ground. You can best believe that Leon has already put that witch Angelica to work on digging up dirt on Chachita and ways to complicate the progress.
I wonder if there is some way that you can let all of us know where the new bar is located in Gazcue with "you know who" find out and having it shut down. Any ideas?
Why hasn't anyone said anything about how good Bar Friends is doing now,and that Leon's is the best and cheapist drinks in town? I here that the drinks in the Sports Bar are so watered down that it takes at least 6 or 7 to even get a buzz.
So, to the last comment. If your so unhappy with the drinks at the Sports Bar , then go to and stay at Leons..I know the owners of the Sports Bar have to know reason to water down drinks, how frikin stupid are ya, brother...That would be the last thing David Lee & his partners would do..
Everbody hang on tight! Bumpy road ahead...
Bar Friends is doing the same amount of business it has always done. The same people who go to the Sports Bar, leave there and go up to Bar Friends. The drinks at Bar Friends are more expensive than the Sports Bar and I know from taste that the drinks at the Sports Bar are not watered down. Why attack David? He minds his business and runs his place with respect. Lets stop using this blog to drag each other down. When I visit the DR, I enjoy going to all the bars and clubs, why can't we just get along?
Poor David. He works hard and runs a fun, safe place to meet boys and some still bitch. He is such a good person so what if his drinks run a little weak. I used to go to the Phoenix [Bar Friends] all of the time because it had nice boys and good interesting tourists to talk with and have a good time. Now all that is there are people on the payroll. The only exception may be Tuesday night when David is closed.
I like Orlando to. I wish him the best. Sorry he could not make a go of things.
It is sad to see people try and knock down good quality people , like David, truely a great nice honest man who runs a good decent place for all of us visitors to go when in beautiful Santo Domingo, why don't you people who like to be so negative about others find a different blog to type all your negative commets in, most of us do not care to read or hear them,so just try and be nice and get along with everyone, life is way too short to be negative and nasty.JFH
Well I have never encountered watered down drinks at the Sports Bar. I also have compared prices between Bar Friends and David's Sports Bar and the Sports Bar was cheaper. Lastly, David is always kind and generous and happy to see his clients visiting SD. That cannot be said for Leon. Leon storms in the bar like a bull in a China shop and never even acknowledges his customers.
no body makes comments about jaydees and he over charges everyone from the time u get in to buying alcohol, beer, soda or water but he still has a jumping club.
david's sports bar serves a purpose without that place and the respect you get from him and staff, it being clean and safe where would you go in the early evening hours?
Does everyone understand the following. SDQ is not what it was 5 years ago with cheap prices with rate of exchange. Do you understand that everything is TAX at 28%. In the US you go to a club and you pay $10 or $15 dollars to get in a club. Ok, then you pay $4 to $8.00 for a beer an/or top shelf drink runs between $6.00 to $10.00 a drink.
So, now lets talk about SDQ. You buy a beer 70RD =$2.12, Top shelf run 140RD to 180RD that equates to approx $4.23 and or $5.45. So now, the owner in SDQ have RENT, Payroll, Electric (outranges), Everyday Expenses, repairs, inhancements, TAX 28%, Security, and so on, now your profit margin is about .-20 to 40 cents cents per drink. Unless you launder Money like miss DO RAG, then you struggle to make an HONEST living in SDQ, WAKE UP people, it's not all roses and stop haten.........
HE/IT still launder Moneies from Western Union?
Anthony, how about giving some spellling lessons to your bloggers!!
The tax on liqour and beer was lowered to 16% in the DR recently.
Find a friendly colmado...it's cheaper than the bars and there is a larger selection of good looking men!
Ant, I have not checked out your blog in a month and boy the things that have been going on. Thanks for the photos. He is BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!
So much going and I missed almost a whole week. Out of habit, I just type www.monaga.blogspot.com to read the blog. Odd. Stuck on June. Anthony would not be away for so long.
Then, I started experimenting. How about just monaga.blogspot.com. Ah! Yes, finally reading updates again.
Well I think the time has come for all of us to pass the word to all the new gay tourists and those not-in-the-know to avoid Bar Friends and let's force Dr. Leon (or whatever the fuck he really is) to close the doors on that place. He deserves that and much more. I have never wished anyone bad luck but this arrogant SOB is really beginning to piss me off. For any of you tourists who do not know the history behind Bar Friends (aka Bar Phoenix) and it's whacked out owner Leon, I recommend you ask a few of the people in the know in the gay community in SD. Spend your dollars any other bar in the capital city but stay away from Leon and her business. The owner is either higher than a kite on drugs or needs to be signed into a mental ward. I have seen it with my own eyes more than once. I will never spend another peso in that bar. Lastly, it is in a very dark and dangerous part of Santo Domingo so keep that in mind as well.
I am not a fan of Dr. Leon {nurse Leon] or whatever his education is. I don't enjoy the place or the fantasy world he lives in. However, I disagree with your characterization of that neighborhood. For years, the Phoenix operated there with no problems from the neighbors. I have frequently walked there from the conde or walked from there to other bars like J.D.s or Parios. If there is danger there now, I think it is because of the whacked out owner.
I was just at Bar Friend's less than a month ago and I didn't witness or experience none of the negative things that some of you are writing about. The place is clean, relatively safe, attentive staff (except for the door men that want money for opening the door on the cab). I met some wonderful people there from the states and I didn't find the drinks over priced.Leon is doing what he does to make a living. Why so much hate? Can anyone be specific about anything that Leon has done to you personally? Has Leon borrowed any of your money and not paid you back? Has Leon ever been invited to your house or hotel to eat? Do you know for a fact that Leon is working a scam with Western Union or any other company. Does it matter is he's a doctor, nurse or just someone with a vivid imagination.
To the last comment:
1. Key word "relitavely safe", those streets are dark and scary, especially the one block up from the conde.
2. The doorman is a scam artist, which is allowed by Leon to ask/demand tips for opening the cab door. That way Leon does not have to pay him a livable wage.
3. I was invited to Leon's house, fed and partied and then presented with a bill, that I did not know anything about. Is that personal enough?
4. Leon has said out his own mouth,in Bar Phoenix when lawerence had it, that he has been coming here for years now, to meet the deposits coming from the states, because he is running a money laundry service.
So defend the good Dr. Nurse to the best of your ability, Angie, but just like the rest, when he is finish with you, he will toss you aside just like the others he has used in the DR.
Oh, speaking of used, it is funny that both Jay the former bartender under Lawrence and Luis the former doorman under Lawrence are both back at work for Leon, the man who was sued by both of those guys for thousands of us dollars and Leon vowed never to allow them to sit foot into his bar again. Now they work for him, huuummmm buying loyality? Be careful girl, those dominicans are loyal to the highest bidder.
The defenders seem to be a couple of blog writers who like Leon (hint: One of them is linked to this blog). Anyone who wants to know who Leon is can use a domain ownership search for enchantingencounters.net.
Luis is back at that bar? Wow. I used to tip him to protect me from the horders of bugarrones. Ah!
Jeyk is the former bartenders name(under Lawrence) and times are tough in the Caribbean and the DR so a job is a job is a job is a job......who cares?
Hi Anthony, say how r u? i tried to send you a message to your private e/mail adress twice and got both of them back using the last e/mails you sent me ,so what's up with that?? send me a message or anothger e/mail so oI can comminicate with you, thanks, JIM from Houston
No word or posting from Anthony for a week. That is more than peculiar and yes his emails are being returned with a mailer-daemon saying that the address is not valid. Anthony, if your alive and well please let us all know.
Jim, you can email me at Anthony.Montgomery@gmail.com.
Jeyk, Jay, what difference does it make, I'm sure he is back up to his ole antics, oh.... but when I saw him he was not behind the bar, so I guess he can't pad the clients tabs anymore.
Is anyone having fun down there anymore?
Now he won't have to stick with his buggaron business. He can go back to padding tabs and extorting money from customers.
Back to the drinks... If someone has to have 6 or 7 drinks at the Sports Bar to get a buzz they are not drinking, they are an alcoholic!!!
