Across the street from the Hodelpa Caribe Colonial is a new place to stay, called the Hostal La Colonia. Running it is a former Caribe Colonial employee, Felipe. Completely new and very nice it has rooms starting at $50 per night. All the comforts like air-conditioning, hot water, security, and yes, no problems with having visitors.

Congratulations to Felipe. I wish him the best in this endeavor. I noticed construction in the building across from the Hodelpa during my last visit. I had no idea this was Felipe's project.
That's pretty cool. I remember the construction going on from time to time. From the pix on his site it's balcony to balcony level with Caribe Colonial.... could lead to some interesting views!!!

The last time that I was in Santo Domingo I saw the construction/renovations going on. I thought that it was an apartment building. I always stay at the Hodelpa Caribe and I am quite familiar with Felipe. I missed him the last time I was there but I am glad to know that he is doing well and wish him much success in his new endeavor. When I return to Santo Domingo in a few weeks, I will stop by and let him know.
I have grown tired of the "gay" hotel where I normally stay and keep picking up anti gay vibes...I have been looking for a new place to stay and this sounds like it might work. I definitely will check it out the next time I am there......then maybe Adios Duque!!
