It has been a long day, but I really enjoyed myself today. One observation I had is that today is the day that anyone and everyone could/would dress up in drag. I didn't get to take as many pictures (if you can believe it?) as I wanted, because the people-watching was just amazing.
This was a very nice carnival/independence week. Many tourists in town and everyone seemed to be on their best behavior, EXCEPT for the incident (disturbance) at Paco's yesterday. Why, people? Why? You are getting a reputation, AND it is not a good one. Can't we all just get along?
Obviously not.
Anyway, everyone is headed over to CHA right now. It is on the Malecon, and I'm hearing the chil'ren are out there carrying on as we speak. (Update: The show at CHA was spectacular. Photos later)
Well, that is all for now.

Tight pics Anthony. Yeah, I see they took the opportunity to live out their compulsions to dress in drag for the one day out of the year they could get away with it. I wish I was there - it looks like it was a great time.
Thanks for the pics. I can imagine the fun and revel that you had down there. It seemed like everybody was having a hell of a time..I wish I had been there.Hopefully I wont miss it next year.
Great pics, but what happened at Paco's? Did some drunken, gay tourists looking for bugarrones cause a scene there? Were they asked to leave and to never come back? Do tell. Inquiring minds want to know!

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. Whatever happened at Paco's?

I see the hunk in shorts and curlers in an earlier pic at La Vega carnival is back in your March 2 pics..I see another hunk in white sports over yellow trunks, posing for a photo..More of these please.I'm sure you have more.Im not missing next year...No sir
There was a disturbance at Paco's, and luckily before it could get out of hand cooler heads prevailed. No physical contact, but a lots of yelling and threats.
The best day of the year in Dominican Republic NO DOUBT.. lol. If u are gay and u are in the carnival that day u can do anything u want! I didnt take my cam with me this year cos the last year i was victim of an assault, so bad this amazing day the bad guys like to be there too. My advice always be in a group, never alone..
It's sad that some (apparently) gay tourists can not hold their liquor or behave in a civil way when hanging out at Paco's. Paco's is about the only place in the Colonial Zone where gays can hang out during the day and chill while people watching. The owner and staff are very tolerant of the shenanigans that go on by some of their gay clientele, but there is a limit. It is too bad that some have to spoil it for the rest!

In an earlier blog (Oct.17) you featured an apartment for rent on the Malecon. There was no contact information. Do you know if it is still for rent and how can I get the rates.... if I can afford it with my Champagne taste and Presidente pocketbook
Is carnival the same date every year? want to make sure i come down next year for vacation.
HI Anthony, I truely enjoyed all the great pictures you shared with us, thanks so much. It's a bitter two edge blade, because I would have really enjoyed being there to see all the festive colors and taken in the celebration, looked like a fun time was had by all.Say was it a tourist that cause the havic mess at Paco's?? bet so, your so right on "when will they ever learn", gives all us who enjoy visiting there a bad name.Keep up the good work.Jim from Houston,Tx.
The apartment mentioned above has been rented for the next 6 months.
Carnival in Santo Domingo is always (usually) the first Sunday after February 27, which is Dominican Independence Day.
