Esedeku
Esedeku, which is a great colonial zone bar, is having a "re-inauguration" to celebrate a new phase for their business.

I visited there a couple of times and it is nice but I got the feeling that they wanted local gays and didn't really want tourists...a change of attitude and I would return.
That's ridiculous that person who said they only want locals. Paco, the owner and his boyfriend are lots of fun and friendly to everyone, especially tourists, since they contribute heavily to the bar's success. I would suspect that it is your attitude that may need to change. Paco is the friendliest bar owner in Santo Domingo and very cool and is especially nice to tourists.
I have gone several times while visiting Santo Domingo and the owner was very nice to me. Some Dominican friends went last night and said the new place is much bigger and really nice.
I hope Eusedeku has removed the policy that does not allow guys kissing. It was kind of disturbing hearing the bartender (the Spaniard, Paco?) tell a couple of Dominicanos to stop their heavy necking because "personas normales" (aka straight people) were entering the bar. The two Dominican men left. That was a few years ago, when the bar was new. Maybe someone can find out what his policy about men kissing each other is now?
Former New Yorker (Harlem!) living in Santo Domingo. I moved here in January 2004. I'm just following my dream of being my own boss and looking forward to the journey of where life takes me next. This blog documents the journey, warts and all. I want to encourage people to seek out a life that makes you happy.

Well, maybe that's the "new phase" they are celebrating and they really do want you...er, your money, to come back!
Don't wait for the change. MAKE the change by going there, acting sensibly, and letting them know through your behavior that you're enjoying it.

I have been over there twice and I LOVED it! I went before and after the renovation. Paco you're the best!
