Gazela Opening Night

First, let me just say that the new club is beautiful. But, the opening night was a disappointment. I arrived after 1am to find the streets in front of the club filled with people. At first I thought it was so crowded that we would not be able to get in. No, that wasn't the problem. There were electrical problems. This being the Dominican Republic, everyone waited and milled around in front of the club waiting for them to get the generator running. Then it starting to rain lightly. It didn't seem that they would be able to get the generator running, so people started leaving. We decided to do the same. Then maybe 15 minutes after we leave I get a text message that the lights are back on and the show is about to start, and that we should come back.

We go back and it costs RD$300 pesos for the entrance, even though it was after 2am and the place was closing at 3am (!!!!). The show was in full effect and it was really very good. But to be honest, there was nothing that you wouldn't see at Cha. To make matters worst, they have a smoke machine and it got so bad at one point that I could barely see my friend standing next to me. Which also meant that most of my photos came out very dark.

Gazela has tremendous potential. Upstairs are different rooms where you can go and lounge about, which is very nice. I will definitely be going back to see how they're doing. The execution of tonight's opening was not done very well, in my opinion. Here's hoping that they can work the kinks out and there will be some serious competition amongst the clubs.

Update: Saturday night there was a great turnout and the show was nice with a really nice stripper. Then darkness once again. An announcement was made that the electricity cord had been cut. Now of course there is much gossip about whether it could be sabotage? Hhhmmmm ...

i was there lastnight and the opening was a total disappointment because of the electrical problems as they say. the strippers werenot that good looking and most of the bartenders have extra pounds in their belly. whats with what? i went once to click one time with strippers show on night and they were better and the bartenders were hot. sigh. 300 DOP was such a ripped off.

The generator issue with that place has been a problem since ages ago. I remember when I first went to Rouge there was the same problem with the generator. Chachita running and yelling to the workers to ge the generator running while people standing outside waiting and leaving.

Thanks for the review!...looking forward to checking it out myself on my next trip to DR...

Wow,so they charged 300 pesos for the final hour? I bet they didn't even give free drinks at least. I would've been hotter than fish grease!! Hopefully the management can get it together next time. Whenever I plan big exercises, you have to rehearse plans A, B, and C, because anything can happen. Sounds like they never tested their generator. Thanks for the review and pic Anthony. I will be sure to check the place out or at least poke around outside first when I get there next month.

hahaha! and take note, the rain poured outside and so with the inside near the stage. can u imagine that JIM from Houston TX?
well at least u get one free drinks for your 300 DOP and let me add the place has poor ventilation and poor AC.

This sounds like the beginnings of ROUGE all over again. Most of the nights, there was no electricity, no air conditioning, the place emptied out, and it closed in about 6 months. Deja vu?

Shit happens! One of the most famous of all......Bill Gates introducing Windows 97 to the world and getting the dreaded blue screen.

Let's hope they iron the kinks out. It would be great to have another classy club in SD.

The good thing about the club is the place, it has a very good area inside, i agree. I think it does have potential but we will have to see how it works for them in a couple of weeks, they need to bring something plus, extra that the other clubs dont have. The bartenders seemed lost at some point and they started to take their shirts off plus my friends sometimes did not get the change back for their drinks. A drink of vodka went to 350 around 2:30. Most of the people went to to CHA during and after the opening (saw the same people there), the bar is new so lets give some time! Oh and by the way i went pass by it last night and there was light on!

Get a grip SISSYS! All the outrage over $10!!! Give them a chance because competion makes everyone come with their A game. So next time you are down there, it won't be the same ole' run of the mill BULLSHIT... I wish them all the best and hope that the powers that be read this blog!!

350 pesos for a drink? In SD? Really?

350 pesos is almost $10.00 (USA) for a drink. Too expensive for most, I would think. Let's face
it, you're in the DR, not Monaco!

Anon 8:53.....I agree ..let's give everyone a chance and competition is good....but $10 for a drink is crazy.........and just because it is the DR....I am not in the mood for charity.

Just wait till Cuba opens up,the DR will be in the dust!
They will beg for the almighty USD
They will beg for Tourism
and crime will rise! I guess the locals are happy with the cost but I remember when JDees tried that same shit for some drinks, none of them (clubs in the Drama Rep)are the Ritz!
Right Jim from H? Lol

OK, not Capri, Monaco or Cipriani in the NYC!! I commented yesterday on the bitching about the 300 pesos club entry...but 350 for a cocktail? HELL NO!! Well, I find that I never get a buzz when I drink there anyway, so I get a bottle or 2 of Stoli at the airport ($12, you can't beat it). I fuel up in the hotel and only do Presidentes at the club... FYI

Who turned out the lights? That
mean ole Chachita probably sent
somebody to pull the plug on the
new club....

Probably just plain old incompetence!!

Now come on, give them a chance to work out the kinks... smile... it's a real challenge to open a new club no matter where your located, so lets hope they have much success.Good Luck. JIM from Houston,Tx.
