Ricky Martin

"I am proud to say that I am a fortunate homosexual man. I am very blessed to be who I am."

And with those words Ricky Martin is free. It is done. Over. Now he can go about his life and not worry about what will happen if people were to find out he was gay. Now they know. I don't believe it will hurt his career at all. Sure, there are going to be things said that aren't pleasant. But then life isn't always pleasant. Coming out is never easy. And everyone has to do it in their own time. But it should be done. I hope it gives encouragement to other performers, especially in Latin America.

Bravo, Ricky. Bravo!

Kudos Ricky and welcome to the family. I have never held Ricky Martin's silence about being gay against him because we have all lied at some point about it. But I have been pissed at him ever since he performed from George W's presidential inauguration in 2000. To me that was Ricky's greatest betrayal. But I am over it now.

I really believe there was many of us who knew this for a good long time, however said little about it.Many of us have been there and know what a challenge it is to be open about our chosen life style, after saying that, I am sure he feel a great sence of freedom for being honest with all who admire his gifted talents along with his good looks.I wish only for conti-ed happiness and success in his life.Great News.(JFHT)

It was no one 's business of his sexual preference. He was just not ready and his followers could not have handle it.What is sad that he had to deal with this pain for so long, and not feeling the support of his fans. once again if he was a female it would have been accepted.
but being a male coming out could have damage his image. But were just bless that it was time for him to come out and he happened to be on our side. one more for us! way to go!!!just the pain he had to endure all these years, but your free now!

I have mixed feelings regarding the coming out issue. But when you are in the public eye you give up your anonymity and your life is an open book, as you live in a fishbowl. Like it or not this is what comes with the territory. Although it is none of our business who he took to bed. But due to the fact that he put himself out there as this major sex symbol, the curiosity is heightened as to who/what had this the privilege to so. The rumors were there from the start, and there are many of us that knew the truth years ago! What bothers me is the fact that he has come out 10 years after his relevance. The opportunities were there many times in the past when it could have helped many a young struggling Latin queen. Or any struggling young queen. But I guess it is never too late... but it is too much, too little, too late for me. I ain't hating, but he should have done this when the world was his oyster or even when he had the twins.

the actual full statement was so touching...I think the timing is so symbolic with Easter around the corner symbolizing a 'rebirth'...Buena suerte Ricky! ;-)

Do you think Ovie Mughelli will now have the courage to do it?

Encouragement for a queen? We are men not queens that's what's wrong with gays they think they're women, that's why is so hard to come out you don't want to be compared to the queenie ones haha

Gotta agree with Anon -- while, of course, there are all types of gay men, just as there are all types of straight men -- flaming 'queens' and even the use (especially with a straight audience) of terms like 'queen' and girl' perpetuate negative stereotypes -- including, among others (1) that gay men aren't really "men" and (2) and that gay life is frivolous. I'll take my gay men masculine -- like, for example, Ricky Martin.

Ricky Martin masculine?! R U 4 real... GIRL?? I really hate when people put down the effeminate gays, because remember it was the 'queens' who threw the first brick at The Stonewall. Let us not forget.
