A Good Day!

Today was a good day.

A couple of months ago I started thinking about making some changes. I decided after much thought and reflection to give up the guesthouse (Casa de Monaga) and go after something different. When I first rented the guesthouse I entered into a deal that I shouldn't have taken. People whose counsel I cherish warned against the deal, but I wanted it so badly and desperately wanted to move to Santo Domingo, I allowed my feelings to control a very important business decision.

On Thursday, June 30, 2005, I moved out of the guesthouse and I was supposed to move into a new building. Unfortunately, business is not done quite the same way as it is in the States, so the building I was suppsed to move to was not ready (more on that later!). Before this date arrived many rumors had started circulating about the cause of my decision to move. I have heard everything from I was thrown out of the guesthouse forcibly by the police, to I was arrested for selling cocaine. Fortunately, I know what this is about. It has nothing to do with me, but with how the people spreading this gossip are upset about how their lives are going. What can you do?

I had been negotiating with new building owner for 2 months about this new opportunity. Living and doing business in the Dominican Republic for 18 months (and doing business here the last 5 years) I am now well-equipped for all the challenges this country has to offer. I wasn't about to make the same mistakes twice so I was not willing to take any bullshit. Which brings to me why this was a good day. Today we agreed on all major points and money was exchanged. Good day indeed.

With that, my outlook is now very positive and I will definitely be blogging a lot more.

Dear Anthony,
I do hope that you get your act together and move into your new locale asap! Julio and I stayed with you some time ago and are looking forward to staying with you again wherever you may be. Say "hello" to Narciso for me the
next time you visit him. We hope to be in Santo Domingo again in mid-August. More power to you!
From Puerto Rico,
Rafael

Anthony, I'm so glad to hear that things are working out. You're amazing and on point, so things will work out despite the occasional rough patches. Stay strong and we'll see you again very soon (early August!). I also added you to my blogroll!
