Independence/Carnaval

Interesting weekend. Many tourists here visiting. But something was missing. Can't place my finger on it. I just didn't have the spirit this year. I didn't go to the military parade last Friday. I went to the carnaval parade on Sunday, but it was marred when this kid tried to snatch the camera of someone I was with. Thankfully, he was not able to get it, but almost. My friend fell while giving chase to the thief and scraped his elbow and ruined his white shorts. After that, it was over for me. I was ready to go (and so was he). Unfortunately, because he was there with a really nice camera with a great zoom, I let him take most of the photos. Hopefully I will be able to get copies. Until then, here are some photos I was able to take. To see photos from last year's parade, click here.

Sorry about the bad experience. The Carnival thing in SD does get tired after a while. The parade in particular needs better organization. It seems that anyone can just get into it and interrupt the marchers. Sometimes there are large gaps between one group and the next which slows things down. You would think that they would have their act together by now but they don't. Great eye candy though!

Hola, I mustthere a more than a few good looking men, espically the one wearing a blue shirt and hat, one in a yellow shirt with black on it,another in a white shirt then another one wearing a blue shirt with orange pants plus too many others to mention that would certaibly turn my head along with just looking way too delicious ..plus the one wearing the red banadana, was studly has well,so really wish I had been there to partake of all these festival events. So sorry to hear about someone trying to take your friends camor, he was blessed it turned it the way it did,for his sake.I just can not believe you fail to attend the Independence Day or Military parade,I was there one year for that special event and it was just way too exciting not to view and be part of.Later, JIM from Houston,Texas

I understand that feeling.. I was there for the Christmas/New Year's holidays.and I had a good time but something seemed to be missing...the feeling of celebration and joy just didn't seem to be there...New Year's Eve was pretty subdued compared to past years. I cant really describe it.

Jim...it is hard to explain...the crowds were smaller....but the spirit and celebratory mood especially with the Dominicans just wasn't there. New Year's Eve which usually lasts all night and when traffic is at a grid lock and the streets are filled with people walking just didn't happen. Taxis are usually hard to find that night but there were plenty of idle taxis then....Don't be mistaken, I had a good time and met some good people but it just seemed a little less of everything. I wish I could be more specific.
